Jeremy Goldstein, who began his career working for a large law firm in New York, is now partner and founder of the law firm Jeremy L. Goldstein & Associates, LLC. He has gained notoriety as an accomplished lawyer in corporate acquisitions and advisement on corporate governance and employer compensation issues. He holds the honor of making the list of top executive compensation lawyers in the Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business as well as The Legal 500.
In addition to his involvement in multiple large corporate acquisitions, chairing the Mergers & Acquisition Subcommittee of the Executive Compensation Committee of the American Bar Association Business Section, and regularly publishing and speaking on corporate and executive compensation issues, Mr. Goldstein is also on the Board of Directors of Fountain House, an organization dedicated to helping individuals with mental illness recovery and providing those individuals with the education and support to succeed as contributing citizens.
Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised due to Mr. Goldstein’s efforts in fund- raising. One recent example of this was the hosting of wine dinner fundraisers in May, 2018 along with his co-hosts Jim Finkel and Omar Khan. The donations raised help to continue the mission of Fountain House in assisting persons with mental illnesses to succeed.
“Helping to succeed” for Fountain House doesn’t merely mean offering diagnosis and medication. Persons are able to avail themselves of continuing education, receive guidance in developing the ability to establish and maintain relationships, and obtain meaningful employment – things they would have struggled with or not been able to do on their own. Employment is begun through Fountain house and their programs, but participants are educated so that they are able to obtain employment in the outside sector of the city as well – separate from Fountain House’s employment programs. Typically, the general population of persons with mental illness has a very low employment rate (around 15%), but Fountain House’s rate of employment is over 40%. Fountain House’s successful model is now being implemented with success in other areas of the country; over 300 locations in 32 states have adopted this model, as well as locations in over 30 countries. Over 100,000 persons have been helped because of this organization’s efforts. Maintaining and culturing individuals’ dignity and freedom from the stigma previously associated with mental illness, is as important a goal for Fountain House as the assistance for improving participants’ quality of life.
Mr. Goldstein’s accomplishments in the legal field are enough to command the admiration of his peers and clients, but his contributions in his humanitarian efforts, though not an accomplishment that receives a Fortune 500 rating or recognition as part of his legal repertoire, stand on their own.
