With the stellar 150 million dollar that was signed in 2008 between popular rap artist, Jay-Z and the US based entertainment company, Live Nation (which is well known for their business relationship with pop idols Rihanna and Shakira), coming soon to an end both parties are looking to cash in. Sources close to both the company and the performer have reported that Live Nation post-deal is still very interested in upholding and continuing their highly financially successful touring and live performance deals with Jay-Z and his company but are no longer interested in purchasing the artist’s music. However, it should also be noted that in the past the company has purchased large amounts of Jay-Z’s recorded music which they will not, at least as far as is publicly known, be dropping. Therefore it seems highly likely that UMG are in talks with Jay-Z and Ms. Perez to purchase, in part or in whole, Roc Nation, though this has not yet been confirmed by either attendant party. The reason that it seems highly likely that UMG will buy out Roc Nation is due to the fact that UMG already has substantial shares in the company in the form of a distribution agreement.
